suddenly struck by the terrible realisation that hunting killed jo the same way it killed her father

“You see, Bill was all clawed up. He was holding his insides in his hands. He was gurgling and praying to see you and Ellen one more time…”

sounds

familiar

jo followed right in her daddy’s footsteps to the end, and ellen followed her because she couldn’t bear to lose the two people she loved in the same way

The first one I wrote is the return of our friend, uh, Cas.  Because we need to—he’s—we love him! And he has to come back, because we love Misha.  We just wanna hang out with him ‘cause he’s cool.

Supernatural regularly includes references to various famous figures and Neil Gaiman is no exception. Eric Kripke mentioned at Comic-Con 2007 how much of an influence Mr. Gaiman is on the show, saying “I was hoping I would meet [Neil Gaiman] because he’s a huge influence on Supernatural, between American Gods and Sandman” and mentioning after he did in fact meet Neil Gaiman, “I’m such a fan of Neil, and he’s every bit as smart as promised and every bit as cool and down-to-earth, and I just loved my conversations with him… I’ve ripped off Neil front, right and centre. I mean Supernatural is basically ‘Sandman meets American Gods.’”

Neil’s influence on the show is evident in multiple ways, most notably:

  • Tessa the Reaper looks remarkably similar to Death from Sandman. In the companion book for season 2 of Supernatural, Death is confirmed as having been the inspiration for the character of Tessa.
  • Castiel’s main wardrobe (most notably the trench coat) is almost directly based off of the character of John Constantine, a figure from both the Hellblazer series and Sandman.

Crowley’s character from Supernatural is more than likely a shout out to the character of the same name from Gaiman’s Good Omens.
